2023: Register to Vote, Onyeka Onwenu Urges Nigerians

Nigeria’s musical icon and ace broadcaster, Onyeka Onwenu has urged Nigerians of voting age to take full advantage of the on-going continuous voter registration exercise, to ensure that they register and vote in the 2023 general elections.
Onwenu in an exclusive interview with True Vision, also urged Nigerians not to sell their votes but ensure that their votes are counted, reminding the electorates that “We are paying a huge price with our lives”.

The Elegant Stallion, as she is popularly known in the industry, was emphatic that “It is time to do the needful. Register to vote, go out to vote and ensure that your votes are counted. Reject the selling of your votes. We are paying a huge price with our lives”.
The visibly concerned songstress, journalist and entertainment diva, further enjoined Nigerians to “Say no to the ascendancy of stooges installed in our political space by the enemy of the people”.
She made it clear that her activism ahead of the 2023 general elections was not informed by anticipated selfish gains but was driven by the desire to see that a more responsive and responsible government is enthroned. “I will always engage politically but I am not running for any office and not interested in any appointments. I am an advocate of justice and fairness towards the people of the South-East”, she further stated. Her words: “I am also an advocate for raising and enthroning the best political, social and entrepreneurial leaders in all spheres in the region. It is time we looked inwards to salvage the race and not allow others to despoil the place, used as tools in the hands of those who want to destroy us entirely”.  The Arondizogu, Imo State-born music star, urged the people of South East in particular and Nigeria in general to shun violence, stressing that “violence is unacceptable but smartness and strategic engagement are necessary”.

Onwenu also urged the upcoming generation to put their trust in God in their quest for fame and stardom as He is the only one who inspires and protects. She stated that it is God “who provides the opportunities and purpose for life”, pointing out that “once you have Him and the direction of the Holy Spirit, you are unstoppable”.  She condemned the upturning of societal values, corruption and the flaunting of ill-gotten wealth, marginalization and injustice, saying that it was not peculiar to the entertainment industry but visible across all segments of the society.
