Landlady’s Son Docked for Allegedly Stealing Tenant’s Phones

A landlady’s son, Confidence Edward was on Thursday docked in a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja for allegedly stealing a two cellphones belonging to his mother’s tenants.
The police charged Edward, 22, with criminal trespass and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Edwin Ochayi, told the court that the defendant on Jan. 21. trespassed into the tenants’ room and stole a vivo cell phone worth N109, 000 and a Tecno Pova cell phone worth N75,000.
He said that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of all the allegations brought against him during police investigation.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. Edward pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Ochayi said he matter was reported at the Asokoro police station by Bridget and Blessing Yahaya who are both sisters and tenants at opposite LEA Primary School Kuruduma I, Asokoro, Abuja.
The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two reasonable sureties, who must live within court’s jurisdiction.
Mayana ordered the surety to submit verifiable means of identification and residential address with the court and police personnel.
The Judge also ordered that the sureties must deposit N100, 000 each must be made to the court registry either by the sureties or the defendant. The judge adjourned the case until March 8, for further hearing.
