Talent Is Not Enough: Isiguzo Explains Nigeria’s Football Challenge
By True Vision anchor, Ebere Aniebo.

Renowned sports journalist Ikedi Isiguzo has debunked the popular belief that Nigeria’s abundance of football talent would automatically have translated into success at the World Cup.
According to Isiguzo, who has covered several international football tournaments around the world, while the quality of individual players plays an important role in football, factors such as team selection, organisation and cohesion are equally critical. To buttress his point, he said: “We see people scoring goals, many of whom you do not expect to score, but they are all working together as a team.”
Explaining further, the outspoken sports analyst stated: “The number of players we have abroad would not have been as important as resolving the issues around us, such as unpaid bonuses, individual players having problems with the team, or problems with the management of the team.” According to him, many of these issues remain unresolved, yet they often resurface whenever those affected are called upon to play.
He also criticised the selection process, noting that there have been persistent allegations that some deserving players struggle to gain national team invitations because of corruption within the system.
