FG Urged to Complete Kafin Zaki Dam Project

The Federal Government has been called upon to ensure the full take-off of the Kafin Zaki Dam project in Bauchi State. Completion of the dam which was conceived many years ago will help in checking the incessant flooding along riverine communities in Bauchi State particularly in the Central and Northern zones. Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, stated these, last Thursday when paid a working visit to get first hand briefing and to commiserate with victims of the flood which caused extensive damage to homesteads, farmlands, roads and other infrastructure in the Zaki Local Government Area of the state.

To facilitate completion of the project which has suffered neglect over the years, the Governor called for amicable resolution of the lingering misunderstanding among all stakeholders, especially the communities involved in the project, failure of which has been partly responsible for the delay in the take-off and completion of the project.

Meanwhile, succour may soon come the way of flood victims in Bauchi State as President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate release of the sum of  N800 million for flood rehabilitation in Jama’are local government area of Bauchi state.

Governor Bala Mohammed who disclosed this while addressing people of the area, at the bank of Jama’are River, said that the fund was approved under the ecological project of the Federal Government. The Governor also visited the Jama’are Central Market, to assess the extent of the damage incurred during the flood disaster.

While thanking the Federal Government for the intervention, through the NEMA, the Governor also requested her to look into the possibility of providing a Dam in Jama’are under its water resources strategy, as part of measures to avert the reoccurrence of over flooding in the area.

Responding to the disclosure by the Acting Head of Administration, Jama’are local government, Alhaji Bala Hafizu to the effect that over 100 farmlands, worth over N100 million have been affected as a result of over flooding, the Governor cautioned farmers in the area against farming along the waterways in order not to be affected by the flood.

On immediate measures to alleviate the plight of the people, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Zaki Local Government Council, Alhaji Yahuza Abdulkadir requested for the provision of adequate canoes by the state government.
