Ikpeazu Signs Diaspora Commission Bill into Law, Appoints Executive Secretary

Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has signed into law a bill establishing Abians in Diaspora Commission (ADCOM). The bill was sponsored by the Minority Whip, representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Onyekwere Mike Ukoha.

Speaking while signing the Bill, the Governor lauded the chief sponsor and member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha, for his thoughtfulness, efforts and love for Abia State.

He explained that it is a thing of joy and pleasure for Abia State to have gotten to such milestone.

The Governor congratulated members of Abia House of Assembly, for coming to the yearnings of Abians in Diaspora.

Governor Ikpeazu, further explained that his government since 2015, made a promise to Abians in Diaspora which gave credence to their participation in things that concern the state.

He noted that outside crude oil, Diaspora remittances have remained a major channel for foreign currency into Nigeria.

Governor Ikpeazu further, expressed pleasure that in Abia, there have been an impressive performance with Abians in Diaspora, adding that the biggest players in agriculture, medical outreach and education are spearheaded by Abians in Diaspora.

He used the medium to name Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Ogbonna Erondu, as the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission.

Earlier, the Chief sponsor of the Bill and member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Onyekwere Mike Ukoha, commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, for signing the Bill into law.

Ukoha explained that this has marked a turning point for Abians in Diaspora and all Abians.

The Minority Whip, further stated that he decided to sponsor the Bill, following his many challenges and the frustration he has passed through as a Diasporan.

In her response, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Ogbonna Erondu, described the occasion as momentous and Governor Ikpeazu, as Diasporan friendly Governor.

She thanked God for a day like this, stressing that Abia is number one state to pass Diaspora Commission Bill and to sign it into law.
