Osinbajo Working with Faith Communities on National Cohesion – MPAC

Alhaji Disu Kamor, the Executive Chairman, Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), says Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is willing to continue working with the faith communities to promote national cohesion.

Kamor spoke with State House correspondents after leading board members of MPAC on a courtesy visit to the vice president on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that the visit offered the board members an opportunity to intimate the vice president on activities of the organisation in nation building and promoting inter-faith harmony.

“On what our organisation has been doing in terms of intervening in the major issues of religious crises that we have had in Nigeria over the years.

“As well as the important steps that can be taken on behalf of the government and the faith practitioners on both sides to contribute to meaningful, lasting and effective solution to some of these avoidable problems that we have had over the years in different places across the country.

“So, the meeting went quite well; he was quite receptive of some of the ideas we put on the table.

“He has shown willingness to continue to work with the faith communities to build on the achievements that have been made in the past so that we can make new ones.’’

Kamor said that MPAC was majorly focused on three areas — on a tripod stand of media activism, political activism as well as inter-faith relations.

According to him, the organisation uses the power of the media to create awareness and sensitization about issues affecting Muslims as well as other citizens of Nigeria.

He said that MPAC also encouraged people to engage actively and participate in politics as a means to achieve good governance for the country.

“We have to contribute to peace building; and religions, both Christianity and Islam, have rich traditions in them to inspire their adherents to live peacefully with each other.

“ It is time we continued to emphasise our similarities that we have rather than focus on the differences that have been setting us apart and setting us on each other.

“ So, these are some of the things that we have been doing as an organisation; we want to expand this.

“We want to expand the space for people who believe in this to act in more powerful way in order to bring about the well sought after peace in the country,’’ he said.
