Ebonyi to Sensitize Workers on Health Insurance Scheme

From Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki

Ebonyi government under the watch of Governor David Umahi has mapped out plan to sensitize workers on health insurance scheme for their benefits in the state.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party and Labour Matters, Comrade Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor made the disclosure in Abakaliki after meeting with the leaders of workers in the state.

“We have set up a five-man committee to draw out the timetable for the sensitization of the workers on their health insurance across ministries and council areas in Ebonyi State,” she said.

Adibe-Nwafor said that the committee chaired by the representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Patrick Ekwe, was constituted based on the agreement of the leaders of workers during the meeting.

According to her, “the leaders of workers have agreed and set up a five-man committee to draw out the timetable of visitation to the ministries, local government by local government, to sensitize the workers on what health insurance scheme is all about.

“You know it’s said, if you are not informed, you will be deformed. Workers need to be informed – they need to know what health insurance scheme is all about, not just hearing it. Somebody is going to talk to the workers one on one and explain what health insurance scheme is all about which I believe that they will also like to be the participants.”

Mrs Adibe-Nwafor appreciated the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi for his continuous introducion of life touching programmes for the state workers since his assumption of office in 2015.

She explained that the meeting was held as directed by the state governor to seek the consent of the workers through their leaders on their health insurance and how they feel about it.

The Special Assistant said that those who were present in the meeting pointed out their challenges including their promotion and employment of new workers after their interview and exams, and however, assured them of the positive outcome in no distant time.

She assured that the state government’s proposal for the workers’ health insurance would be in line with that of Federal government, and also promised them of making the law available to the workers to facilitate the health count of the interested people.

Adibe-Nwafor equally advised Ebonyi workers and residents of the state who are already at age of eighteen years and above to try as much as possible to do voter registration.
