Four dead, scores injured in early morning accident in Aba

More than four persons, may have been crushed to death this morning, as a heavy duty vehicle, rammed into several vehicles stuck in a traffic gridlock at the popular Ogbor Hill bridge in Aba, Abia State.

Eye witness account said the heavy duty vehicle lost control due to break failure and left many others sustaining various degrees of injuries.

As at the time of filing this report, scores of vehicles, including commercial tricycles are trapped in the bridgehead.

According to the eyewitness account, the trailer, carrying heavy load, was descending the Waterside river hill, during the morning slow movement that usually occur in the area along Ikot Ekpene Road, when it had a break failure and rammed into other vehicles.

Police and men of the Abia state Transport Management Scheme, were seen alongside other kind hearted Nigerians were seen trying to assist the victims.

A police officer, said to be in charge of the team from Ogbor Hill Divisional headquarters, refused to comment on the accident, saying it was too early, as the actual cause was not known yet.

The officer, who refused to give her name, said efforts were being concentrated on the evacuation of injured people to hospitals for treatment while corpses of the deceased would be taken to nearby mortuaries from where their relations will be able to identify and collect them.
