CVR: Ebonyi Records 142,316 New Voters- INEC

Following the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on 28th June, 2021, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi has recorded one hundred and forty two thousand, three hundred and sixteen (142,316) fresh voter registrants in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ebonyi State, Dr Chukwuemeka Joseph Chukwu, made the disclosure in a statement, Friday in Abakaliki, saying the continuous voter registration is still ongoing across the nation.

Chukwu noted that the exercise is taking place in the fifteen (15) registration Centre’s in Ebonyi, including one (1) Centre in each of the INEC area offices within the thirteen (13) local government areas and two (2) Centre’s that make up the two thousand, nine hundred and forty six (2,946) polling units in the one hundred and seventy one (171) registration wards in the state.

According to him, “since the exercise commenced on 28th June, 2021, INEC Ebonyi State has recorded seventy nine thousand, eight hundred and eight (79,808) online registration and sixty two thousand, five hundred and eight (62,508) completed registration as at 31st January, 2022, 3rd quarter, week 4.”

He advised the prospective registrants to visit any of the INEC offices within the thirteen (13) local government areas or the state office to register, noting that the continuous voter registration is done free of charge and registration by proxy can never be allowed by the Commission.

He explained that the registration is done in two categories including physical and online registration. He advised the prospective online registrants to visit the INEC website – https://cvr.inec.gov.ng or https://cvr.inecnigeria.org to book a date.

Speaking further on the rumor’s making rounds that the current Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, have expired, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner described the rumor’s as a falsehood and urged the general public to disregard them.

“We also wish to stress that PVCs have no expiring date. However, if your PVC is not clear or having issues when you want to cast your vote during an election, if your name is not correctly written, if your PVC is defaced or if you have relocated to another place, you can visit any of the centers in Ebonyi State for PVC update,” Chukwu advised.
