Adamawa Govt Scales Up Teacher Training Programmes – Commissioner 

Adamawa Government says it has adopted proactive training programmes to build teacher capacity towards enhancing delivery of quality education for all. Mrs. Wilbina Jackson, the state Commissioner for Education, stated this at the inauguration of a six-day training exercise for Basic Education Quality Assurance Department under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), on Wednesday in Yola. Jackson said the state government accorded premium to the teacher training programme to create enabling teaching and learning environment at basic and post basic levels of education. “Provision of qualitative education is among the top 11-point agenda of the present administration  in the state. “Also, training and re-training of teachers are the most top priority of state government,” she said.

She urged the participants to use the knowledge acquired for the improvement of basic education in state.

Also speaking, Hajiya Amina Tafida, State Coordinator, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), said the exercise was a follow-up to the previous training conducted by the Commission.

Tafida said the training was meant to equip the participants with basic knowledge and skills for effectiveness in the learning process at basic level.

“The training is designed to improve the capacity of quality assurance officers at the state and local government levels.” Tafida said.

In his remark, Dr. Salihi Ateequ, Chairman, Adamawa Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), said the board had adopted practical measures towards improving quality of education in the state. Ateequ said the training would go a long way in addressing nagging problems in the basic education sector. He said the training exercise with the theme, ‘Effective School Evaluation: Panacea for Improving Learning Outcomes and Strengthening of the School System,” was organized in collaboration between the board and UBEC. The Chairman urged the participants to use of the skills learnt for improve performances.
