Lesbos Residents Discover Bodies of 6 Migrants on Coast

Residents of the Greek island of Lesbos on Tuesday, discovered six bodies of migrants on the north-eastern coast of the island.

Four bodies were washed up on the beach, while two others were discovered in the sea; local media reported, citing the coast guard.

It is suspected that the three men and three women died as the result of a refugee boat capsizing. There could be more victims.

According to the reports, the coast guard has launched an extensive search and rescue operation.

Migrants repeatedly attempt to get from the Turkish Aegean coast to the Greek islands and thus into the European Union.

The weather conditions are extremely dangerous, and the crossings are often attempted in rotten boats and rubber dinghies.
