2022 World Water Day: Minister Inaugurates Rural Water Project in FCT’s Gosa Community

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, on Tuesday commissioned a borehole in Mawyeya, Gosa Community of the FCT, as part of the rural water project for FCT communities.

Commissioning the project, the minister charged the residents of the community to ensure good maintenance of the borehole to motivate government to provide more social amenities for them.

She said that the FCTA is determined to provide portable and affordable water for FCT residents and charged the people to observe proper hygiene by sanitizing their environments.

“The ultimate benefit of water cannot be achieved without adequate hygiene practices. You have to guide against all kinds of diseases by making your environment neat.

“I thank the management of the FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) whose efforts made this project possible, I call on RUWASSA to do more.

“We will also come to build public toilets for the community and also teach the residents how to build standard toilets, we are working in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the area of building the toilets,’’ she said.

Mr Olusade Adesola, the Permanent Secretary, FCTA, stated that the administration planned to better the lives of rural dwellers in FCT by making infrastructural facilities available.

He also encouraged residents of Mawyeya to work harder to preserve the borehole which was commissioned for them.

The Director, RUWASSA Department of the FCT, Dr. Mohammed Dan-Hassan, stated that the borehole which had just been commissioned is just the beginning of the FCT Rural Water Scheme.

He said that RUWASSA planned to commission about 150 borehole projects in other communities.

Dan-Hassan disclosed that if the community ensures good maintenance of the borehole, RUWASSA would work with other FCT authorities to ensure that solar energy is installed in the community.

Chief Nana Ishaku, the District Head of Gosa, appreciated the FCTA for the borehole, adding that there is still more to do by the government for the community.

He said that the community needs more social amenities such as access roads, stable electricity, schools, hospitals and employment for the youth as socialization is gradually coming into the community.

Meanwhile, RUWASSA used the opportunity to donate a 3.3KVA power generating set to Gosa Primary Healthcare Unit to support the proper running of a borehole dug for the health facility in 2021 by Rotary Club of Abuja.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Iwot Ndaeyo, Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Board, thanked the Rotary Club of Abuja for giving Gosa Primary Healthcare in 2021, and also thanked RUWASSA for the contribution of the generating set.

He stressed that partnership is crucial in primary healthcare development, adding that through partnership, the health facility is proud of having a functioning borehole.

He commended Rotary Club of Abuja for playing it role in ensuring that polio is totally eradicated in the world and in Nigeria particularly.
