2023: Lagos Catholic Archbishop Tasks Nigerians on Electing Credible Leaders

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins, has advised Nigerians to look carefully for credible candidates in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.
Martins gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) after the solemn church dedication of SS. Joachim And Anne Catholic Church, Ijegun, Lagos on Saturday.
According to him, it is important that the candidates explain how they intend to fulfill the promises that they make to the people during the campaigns.
“Those making electoral promises must be certainly ready to put their words into action.
“Voters should ask them their plans and how they intend to fulfil those promises before they vote for them.
“Secondly, we should be looking out for people who are truly ready to unite the country, especially at this period of insecurity,” he said.
Martins noted that the nation could only excel through unity, adding that leaders who had shown good disposition to this virtue should be elected.
“We must avoid voting for someone who can’t create good policies or those that would separate people from others.
“We should be looking out for people who will unite the country and not those who will bring about division because Christ promotes unity,” he told NAN
NAN reports that official dedication of the church was performed by the archbishop alongside over 20 Catholic priests.
