ALGON Slams Ebonyi Lawmakers’ Motion to Disband Ebubeagu

By Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Ebonyi, has slammed the motion moved by the members of the House Representatives elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, calling for the disbandment of Ebubeagu Security Outfit of the State Chapter.

True Vision reports that five members of House of Representatives from Ebonyi State had recently moved a motion alleging that the state government under the watch of Governor David Umahi, has allegedly shared arms to the Ebubeagu operatives, who have been allegedly using them to carry out different extra-judicial activities and illegal operations in the state.

The lawmakers in a joint motion moved by Hon. Idu Igariwey (Afikpo North/South) and supported by four other PDP allies including Hon. Livinus Makwe (Ohaozara, Ivo, Onicha), Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga (Abakaliki/Izzi), Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku (Ebonyi/Ohaukwu) and Hon. Edwin Nwonu (Ezza North/Ishielu) insisted that the Ebonyi State Chapter of Ebubeagu Security Outfit should be disbanded.

But ALGON in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abakaliki, strongly condemned the motion by the lawmakers, describing their actions as misplacement of priority for security stability and peace in the state.

The association regretted that the motion for the disbandment of the security outfit was coming from the elected members of the National Assembly who should have understood the importance of security in the place of good governance these days.
