Ebonyi govt swears in new management for EBSU, sacks entire ESCOEI mgt

The newly constituted management of Ebonyi State University, EBSU, has been sworn in by the state government to pilot the affairs of the institution of the high learning for the next twelve months.

The new management has Professor Chigozie Ogbu as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eugene Nweke as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academics, Mr. Jeremiah Nwangbo as Registrar, Mr. Anthony Isu – Bursar, Mrs. Victoria Nwali – Librarian, and Professor Happiness Oselebe – Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Administration.

During their inauguration at the Executive Council Chambers, Abakaliki, Governor David Umahi charged them to redouble their efforts for the overall development of the university.

“Let me on behalf of the Government congratulate Professor Ogbu and his team, three people in the old management have been dropped and three have been retained, Ebonyi State University came first in the rating of State Universities in the South East, so it is something to commend them and for Ebonyi people to know them, Ebonyi State University came second in the rating of the entire Universities in the South East, only the University of Nigeria Nsukka came ahead of them.

“We are committed to making the University rank among the best five in the Country and we are committed to doing that,” Umahi said.

Governor Umahi at the event announced the decision of the state executive council to sack the management of the Ebonyi State College of Education Ikwo for administrative lapses and directed the composition of interim management pending the conclusion of the investigation of the finances of the Institution.

“Today we relieved of the duties of the entire management of the Ebonyi State College of Education and we have directed the composition of a five-man team that will run the College for one month pending the conclusion of the investigation into the finances of the college,” he said.

Earlier, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Cletus Ofoke said the inauguration was following the expiration of the tenure of office of the Management of the University which was done in line with the Law establishing the institution.

In an acceptance speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chigozie Ogbu thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged that they would bring their experience to bear in the overall development of the university.
