Ebonyi NUJ Passes Vote of Confidence on State Working Committee

The members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Ebonyi State Council, have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the State Working Committee chaired by Comrade Tony Nwizi and commended the manner they had piloted the affairs of the Union in the last three years. 

This was contained in a communique issued by the union at the end of its congress in Abakaliki. The communique was jointly signed by Moses White, Samuel Okpo, Celestine Okeh and endorsed by the Chairman of the State NUJ, Comrade Tony Nwizi and his Secretary, Comrade Nnamdi Akpa. .

The members of the Congress also commended the State Working Committee of the Union for their efforts so far in advancing the welfare of members in the procurement of land for the proposed Media Estate and other packages for journalists in the state; urging them not to relent in ensuring that the efforts became a dream come true. 

The Congress resolved to commence a process of Check – off Dues in Chapel by a Chapel basis in line with the resolution of the National Executive Committee of the Union held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

Responding, the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Tony Nwizi expressed gratitude to God for safeguarding the members of the Union in Ebonyi state in the three years of his leadership of the Council within which the country witnessed the Coronavirus pandemic and End-SARS protests without loss of any member and commended members for the support and solidarity accorded him and his Executive so far. 

The Chairman of the Council announced that the mandate of the current leadership of the council will elapse in April 2022 and appealed to members to remain steadfast as the processes of election will not affect the welfare packages outlined for the members of the union.  

True Vision Correspondent also reports that a 3 – man Credentials Screening Committee was inaugurated to conduct the forthcoming NUJ State Council election during the congress. 

The members of the committee included the Chairman Salt TV Chapel, Comrade Boniface Nwankwo as Chairman,  Chairman Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Samson Nwafor as Secretary and Chairman State Information Chapel, Comrade Lucy Anyim as a member.

The Chairman of the Council while inaugurating the committee charged them to be guided by the NUJ Constitution in conducting free, fair and credible elections for the council. 

The Congress equally commended Governor David Nweze Umahi for the peace process he initiated in the war-torn Effium and Ezza-Effium communities, the release of 2019, 2020 and 2021 promotions for Civil Servants, the payment of arrears of pensions to retirees among other developmental strides in Ebonyi State.
