Help Disseminate Our Innovations, Breakthroughs, Bauchi Agric Graduates Urge Media

A Bauchi State-based NGO, Agriculture Graduates Association (AGA), has called for the support of the media in disseminating the innovations and breakthroughs recorded in agricultural research and practice by its members.

Chairman of the group, Mr. Joseph Sanga, made the call during a courtesy call on the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council on Monday.

Sanga said that the media support had become imperative in order to assist his members in amplifying their activities in the agricultural sector.

He also expressed the group’s determination to support the Federal Government’s drive to diversify the nation’s economy, stressing that the current reliance on oil revenue was inimical to economic development.

Sanga further stated that the group would soon hold an agricultural summit where farmers would be exposed to different agricultural techniques, thus building their capacities.

Responding, the NUJ Chairman in the state, Malam Umar Said, lauded the efforts of the graduates at coming together as a professional group toward promoting agriculture.

He assured them of the support and cooperation of the media, especially on issues that would promote agriculture and food security.

Said commended the federal government for introducing different agricultural programmes, such as anchor borrowers’ scheme and farmer moni, among others, saying that they had drastically reduced unemployment, increased income and improved food security.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the NGO was formally registered in 2005, with 256 members.
