IBOM AIR: A Government Business with a Difference

Investment in any business venture requires proper planning which include feasibility study to ensure the success of such business.

Given the competition in virtually all sectors of the economy, it is obvious that to attract and sustain patronage in order to make a break through in whatever business, the promoters must strive to bring innovations into their service as well as improve the quality of their products. 

Before the Akwa Ibom state government ventured into the aviation business,it assembled tested and experienced experts in the industry to lay a foundation for it take off.

The aim was to ensure sustainability and profitability of the business to enable the state to recoup it investment. 

With the groundwork completed,Ibom Air ,a commercial airline fully owned by the Akwa Ibom State government commenced inaugural flight in February 2019 with three aircrafts. By June 7 2019 Ibom Air commenced commercial flight from Uyo to Lagos and Abuja. 

Since inception Ibom Air has curved a niche for itself as the most reliable airline in terms of excellence service delivery, track record for punctuality and hospitality. This high premium on customers satisfaction explain why there are increase in patronage of Ibom Air  in the past two years since it came into business .

Today the airline has added to it fleet  five CRJ900 aircraft, two Airbus A220 thus bringing the number of aircraft to seven.

 Ibom Air has also expanded it routes to Lagos, Abuja, Calabar,Enugu and Port Harcourt. With Seven aircrafts in its flight Ibom Air plans to extend it service to other West African countries.

 Speaking at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, when the two new airbus were added to the fleet, Governor Udom Emmanuel who is the initiator of the investment assured that Ibom Air was committed to set the standard as the airline of choice for passengers in Nigeria and West Africa by bringing innovations into it service.

So far, Ibom Air has been adjusted as the best commercial airline in Nigeria by passengers who patronise the airline and experts in aviation sector.

 Records show on time performance, Statistics of Ibom Air in July,2021 was 84 percent and 63 percent in schedule reliability within the period.

The management team of Ibom Air is led by a seasoned pilot, Captain Mfon Udom who had recruited the best hands in the industry to work in the airline.

The success story of Ibom has encouraged the state governor to promise to increase the fleet of the airline to ten. Akwa Ibom state government is the first state in Nigeria to establish a commercial airline.

Clearly, the influx of passengers to Ibom Air since it came on board is a testimony of it effiency and excellence performance in service delivery. 

Therefore, when it comes to punctuality, hospitality and efficient service delivery, Ibom Air has set a set a standard that has made it the envy of other airlines in Nigeria.

This is why passengers who have patronized the services of Ibom Air have described their experiences as unforgettable pleasure which is unparalleled in many domestic airlines in the country. It is hoped that Ibom Air will sustain this high standard in service delivery in aviation industry in Nigeria in the coming years.
