Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State at the weekend reiterated his administration’s commitment to upliftmenting the living conditions of the people of the state through various empowerment initiatives.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado in Bauchi over the weekend.

The governor made this known while distributing empowerment items for beneficiaries in Itas Gadau and Jamaare Local Government Areas of the state under the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme (KEEP)

Governor Bala Mohammed said the introduction of the empowerment program followed the substantial progress made by his administration in the transformation of the infrastructural landscape of the state through the construction of roads and provision of social amenities.

He said as a responsible government, his administration was not unmindful of the need for the people to be economically empowered so as to optimally make use of the infrastructure put in place by the state government.

“Today is the turn of Itas Gadau and Jamaare Local Government Areas to formally join the Economic Empowerment train of taking the generality of the people of Bauchi State out of poverty.

“My Administration will continue to give necessary support to our poverty alleviation and economic empowerment agencies to effectively discharge their responsibilities.”

The governor assured the people of the state that more economic empowerment initiatives would be unveiled as his administration was indeed desirous of making their lives more meaningful.

He tasked the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to improve their condition of living as the empowerment programme had been designed to holistically address the problems of unemployment and poverty.

The governor appealed to members of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in the State House of Assembly not to see the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme as solely an affair of the PDP Government, but as an intervention aimed at salvaging the people of the state from the yoke of poverty.

Governor Bala Mohammed therefore pleaded with them to join hands with his administration so as to collectively work towards improving the living conditions of the people through their various constituency projects.

On her part, the First Lady of the state, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed challenged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity in order to assist the state government in reducing the rate of poverty and unemployment in the state.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Hajiya Sa’adatu Bello Kirfi said so far, the state government has empowered four thousand youth and women in the eight Local Government Areas of the state under the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme.

So far, in addition to Itas Gadau and Jamaare, the KEEP train has made stops at Zaki, Gamawa, Darazo, Ganzuwa, Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of the state.
