The Return of CR7

The football world woke last month to the news that Cristiano Ronaldo has made a dramatic return Manchester United. The Red Devils has at the end of last month, announced that they had reached an agreement with Juventus to sign Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.

The transfer was reported as costing an initial £12.85 million, with a two-year contract plus an optional year, and was confirmed on 31 August. Ronaldo will wear the number 7 shirt after Edinson Cavani the players using the number agreed to switch to 21.

His return sent his fans and Manchester supporters across the globe in a jubilant mode. It is like a home coming for Cristiano Ronaldo whose name do ring a loud bell especially in the football world.

And Ronaldo who is universally known as CR7, did not disappoint millions of his fans across the world, during his second debut for the Red Devils as he banged in a brace in the 4-1 emphatic victory of Manchester United over Newcastle.

Beyond the two goals he scored against the Magpies, Ronaldo’s display on the field of lay showed that the 36 year old Portuguese footballer has more tricks up his sleeves and that retirement from the round leather game is not yet around the corner.

His performance against Newcastle United is a further proof that he is indeed, one of the greatest players to have ever played the round leather game. He holds the record of having won the prestigious Ballon d’Or five times.

The Portuguese also has in his kitty, The European Champions League title. And he has won the title five times with one from his time at Manchester and the other four with Real Madrid. Ronaldo was able to secure his return back to Manchester United from Juventus having spent 3 years with the Italian Giants.

The transfer back to Manchester United a club he represented for nine years from 2003 to 2013 before going to Real Madrid0 for a world record transfer of$94 million in 2013, making 196 appearances and scoring over a 100 goals on his first spell in England. The return to his boy hood club for whom he won his first international debut for Portugal at age 18 in 2003 and also won his first Ballon d’Or and champions league in 2009 at age 23 and made history with the Iconic jersey number 7 which has been associated with other Manchester United legends such as Eric Cantona, George Best and David Beckham.

The return of Ronaldo to the English top flight league has generated so much attention and buzz as Manchester has last won a league trophy in the 2012-2013 season finishing 11 points adrift Manchester city who came second. The arrival has rightly generated so much attention as the incredible Ronaldo followed up his transfer by becoming the highest male goal scorer for a national team, scoring 111 goals.
