Why BASEPA Banned dumping of refuse in Bauchi Metropolis- DG

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) has explained that decision to ban the dumping of refuse by the roadside,, pavement and pedestrian walkways was for the interest of public health in the state.

 Director General of the Agency Dr. Ibrahim Kabir gave the explanation while speaking to newsmen at the end of the rally organized by the Agency for Awareness and Sensitization campaigns to the general public on the ban on dumping of refuse by the roadside.

Kabir stated that as the agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the cleanliness and hygienic conditions in the state, BASEPA considers this decision as a priority to effectively deliver its mandates of waste management and to also restore the beauty and cleanliness of the State capital which serves as a gateway to all the North-Eastern states to the other parts of the country.

The Agency staff alongside the uniform Voluntary organizations and community leaders reach out to households and business premises informing them on the development and directed them to take their waste to the nearest collection centers.

While appreciating the support and cooperation of the community leaders, he also commended the general public for supporting the Agency on that regard.

 Kabir frowned at the dumping of medical waste at Awalah Roundabout by some medical outlets and said that the Agency will not condone such acts and those found wanting will be prosecuted before the environmental mobile court.

Some of the community leaders who participated in the rally also appreciate the initiative and commended the Director-General for coming up with the Idea and assured him of their people’s support and cooperation.

The rally started from the Eagle roundabout, down to State low-cost housing estate, Wunti Street to Makera and Central Market Roundabout; from there the entourage follow Ajiya Adamu road to Kofar Ran and ended at Awalah Roundabout.
