Embrace Diversity, Delta Governor Charges Corps Members

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has urged the corps members posted to the state to embrace diversity and be responsible citizens wherever they were posted to for primary assignments.

Oborevwori made the call on Wednesday while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch A’ Stream 1 corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Issele-Uku.

Oborevwori, represented by Ms Orode Uduaghan, Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development, said that the lessons and knowledge learnt in camp would enable the corps members cope with the new realities they would face during the service year.

“The NYSC is designed to impart in you the virtues of patriotism, team spirit and above all, national integration and cohesion.

“Your stay in your areas of primary assignments would pleasantly help you to erase such negative tendencies, stereotypes and preconceived notions about fellow Nigerians.

“I can assure you that as you leave here, you are going into the receptive and warm embrace of Deltans, wherever you find yourselves,” he said.

He urged them to strive to be above board at all times and exhibit such character traits that people should proudly emulate.

In his address, Mr Olusegun Alao, the State Coordinator of NYSC, urged the corps members to use the skills learnt and acquired during the orientation period to create opportunities for themselves and others.

Alao also urged them to embrace the service year with enthusiasm, dedication, and a commitment to nation building.
